Should sports exist?

Many people get so flown away by the thought of sports that they ultimately forget about education and the importance of it.

First of all, this desperate pursuit of education of its own sake has lead to baristas and cashiers with master's degrees and PhD's (who are very often also unhealthy). Just as obesity has replaced hunger in the developed world, so has pointless education replaced illiteracy. Secondly, sports teach certain values like discipline, patience, consistency and ambition much better than education ever could, especially if done at a competitive level. Athletic competition keeps people accountable for their decisions because it cannot be cheated in any way. I myself have gotten away with not studying for exams by being good at speaking in general and weaseling my way to 9s and 10s in seminars. Something like this doesn't ever fly during a jiu jitsu fight or a marathon. Thirdly, sports are a great form of recreation and have a much better influence than doomscrolling and binge watching tv shows. I think this is self explanatory. Sports allow youth to develop themselves and grow into society through competition, community and the perseverance. The latter, for me, is key to develop in young humans because we need perseverance to achieve anything.
