Should Electric Cars Be Made Mandatory by 2030?
Making electric cars mandatory by 2030 would mean phasing out gasoline and diesel vehicles in favor of electric alternatives to combat climate change and reduce pollution. Electric cars use batteries charged by electricity to power motors, emitting no tailpipe pollutants. The push for electric vehicles (EVs) is driven by concerns over greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel dependence, which have significant environmental and health impacts. The idea gained momentum following the 2015 Paris Agreement, where nations committed to reducing carbon emissions. Countries like Norway and the UK have set targets to ban the sale of new internal combustion engine vehicles within the next decade. Advances in battery technology, government incentives, and the growing charging infrastructure have made electric cars more viable, but challenges remain in manufacturing capacity, battery production, and grid readiness.
