Couples shouldn't have to share their locations with each other by default, because it takes away their right for privacy. A relationship is built off of trust, and if both don't trust each other enough to know that they won't be sneaking around. Then, what is the point of the relationship. Not to mention, this could get controlling and in some cases possessive. As, they might grow suspicious and demand information from each other. This could led to the relationship falling apart because when trust is broken, there's nothing to hold it together. It could cause unnessacry emotional strain and stress on either partner. For the issue of safety, yes, it would technically be safer to leave your location with a close one. That way, when you're in trouble they can track you immediately. But, you could easily share your location with a family member or close friend instead, and inform your spouse if needed. I do not understand how it'd be a problem to share your location, not saying that it is a must in a relationship. But sure you will probaly notify your partner anyway wether you're going shopping, to the movies, to a friend etc in our digital world. Having your location shared wouldn't change much since you most likely will talk about your day and what you've done with your partner. Second of all, if you share your location with a partner who DEMANDS it, who stalks it every minute, who'd question why are where you are, it's wrong in the partner, not in the location sharing. Sharing your location is not "invading" in some kind of privacy, because as I said, no normal person wants your location to stalk you every minute, but to maybe see when you've arrived at a specific destination, if you came home alright, if you have left school/work and the list is endless... I'm sure there are people out there who would consider something like this, but to the majority of people it's a gross invasion of privacy and a display of lack of mutual trust. Maybe it provides some short term peace of mind but people in healthy relationships trust the other person enough so that they don't need to know their location. If you want to know your partner's location, there is already a problem. This also doesn't contribute much to safety.
