Philosophers for decades have been debating what the ultimate way to gain knowledge is. This "epistemological" debate has two main categories of how knowledge is gained. Rationalism, the belief that all knowledge originates in reason, which was advocated by Rene Descartes, and Empiricism, the belief that all knowledge comes from experience, which was pushed by Immanuel Kant.
