The traditional workweek was largely designed around a five-day, 40-hour schedule, but the way people work has changed significantly since that model became widespread. Remote work, automation, digital communication, flexible schedules, and changing attitudes toward work-life balance have all challenged the idea that productivity should be measured by time spent at work. At the same time, many industries still depend on fixed schedules, and shorter workweeks may create challenges for employers, customers, and workers in sectors where continuous coverage is essential. With trials of four-day workweeks producing mixed but often promising results, is the modern workweek still suited to the way people live and work today?
