Are both concepts important? Yes, absolutely, but if we were to choose one over the other, it is obvious: efficiency is what suits most people. To narrow it down we have to ask: what will most of the architecture be used for? Residential, simple answer. Who are the most people benefitting from this? Regular people. What would the average person care more about, when owning a residence is becoming harder and harder, beauty or affordability? Beauty is rare and should be valued, if we talk about a monument, or a building that ought to represent something cultural or whatever, then yes, beauty is the most important, but those are not most of the cases, those are the rare exceptions. When it comes to the average use case of architecture efficiency is key and beauty is optional.
