India's Election Commission has stated its electoral roll process which affects nearly 950 million voters is accurate and continuously updated through a review called the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The process removes duplicate, deceased, or ineligible names from voter lists, similar in concept to voter-roll maintenance debates in other countries (e.g., proof-of-citizenship requirements debated in the U.S.). In one state, West Bengal, the process removed about 9.1 million names ahead of elections, and a case challenging the process is currently before India's Supreme Court.
