Does making healthcare more accessible always lead to better health outcomes?
...
Look beyond whether people can obtain healthcare and examine what happens once they do. Consider how access, quality, prevention, and resource allocation interact, and whether expanded access can sometimes produce unintended consequences.

Expanding access to healthcare is widely seen as essential to improving public health, yet greater access does not automatically translate into better outcomes. Preventive care, early diagnosis, and affordable treatment can reduce illness and save lives, but overdiagnosis, unnecessary interventions, workforce shortages, and inefficient resource allocation can complicate the picture. Should healthcare systems focus primarily on expanding access, or does improving health require a broader approach that also considers quality, prevention, and how resources are used?
