Does documenting an experience make you experience it less?
...
Think about the difference between experiencing something in the moment and experiencing it while consciously preserving it for later. Consider whether documentation necessarily takes attention away from an experience, or whether it can sometimes deepen it.

People increasingly document everyday experiences through photos, videos, posts, and digital journals, creating a record of moments that might otherwise simply be remembered. While documenting can help people preserve memories and share meaningful experiences with others, it can also change the way they pay attention to what is happening in the moment. Taking a photo, choosing what to post, or thinking about how an experience will look later can introduce a layer of self-awareness that wasn't there before. This debate asks whether documenting an experience actually diminishes the experience itself, or whether recording and reflecting on moments can become part of how people enjoy and remember them.
